Environmental Noise and Vibration Measurements

Noise in the environment is a growing concern and is the reason behind many neighbour nuisance disputes as well as a large number of community quality of life problems! Whether it’s a neighbour holding a middle-of-the-night party or a near-by construction site, environmental noise nuisance is a problem. How to measure it for the purpose of providing reasonable control issues is a matter of great importance and Svantek have designed an economical but extremely effective system for that purpose.

Measuring environmental noise can be difficult and different states in the USA have differing views and requirements for the effective measurement of noise in the community. All have one thing in common though: If the noise is too loud, it should be reduced or eliminated. Whether a straight dB(A) level over time is all that is required, whether tonal content using advanced FFT filtering is needed, or whether Lns at each 1/3 Octave level is required, the SVAN-959 is ideal for the purpose of solving the problem!

VIBRATION Measurements

Vibration affects us in a variety of ways and sometimes, we don’t even know that it’s there! Vibration can be damaging to our property as well as our bodies and Svantek has created instrumentation to measure and analyze both areas. In Europe, standards have been in place for some time relative to human body vibration monitoring and restrictions are set in lace to control human exposure to harmful vibrations coming from machinery and equipment (truck, rains, grinding tools, jackhammers, etc.).  Svantek leads the way in measuring hand-arm and whole body vibration applications and the SVAN-959 is an ideal choice for making effective and comprehensive measurements.

The SVAN-958 is an all digital, 4 channels, 20kHz signal analyzer meeting  Type 1 sound level meter (meeting IEC 61672) standards and vibration meter  standards (ISO 8041). The SVAN-958 is an ideal choice for Human Vibration (ISO 2631-1, 2&5 and ISO 5349-1&2) and is available with all required weighting filters, transducers and adapters for triaxial Whole Body and triaxial Hand-Arm vibration measurements.

Each of the 4 channels can work simultaneously with independently configured inputs filters, and RMS detector time constants (e.g., simultaneous 3 axis measurement of the Whole Body vibration and noise dose!).

The external USB memory stick (thumb drive) extends the internal 32MB of memory to levels limited only by currently available technology – and that’s difficult to comprehend!

The SVAN series of instruments are hand-held, battery operated meters that can make simultaneous measurements of noise and vibration using advanced parallel filters.

In this field, there are three types of measurement – occupational exposure, annoyance and building damage.

For all three applications, we offer the Svan 958, which is a triaxial instrument measuring in X,Y and Z simultaneously.

Frequency weightings are standard for BS6472 and ISO8041 requirements, and we offer complete kits including ‘whoopee cushion’ seat pads or high sensitivity

Powerful Software for Sound and Vibration Analysis

The VibraTools Suite (VTS) Open Source Code software is your perfect companion when doing measurements in the sound, noise and vibration field. It does not matter if you have collced your data using Svantek instruments or a high channel count DAQ system, VTS is your partner for success. Go to our Axiom EduTech home page for more information on what this powerful MATLAB based software package can do for you.

Low Cost Sound Analyzer

The SVAN-959 leads the way as a compact, single channel instrument for measuring noise in the environment. The SVAN-959 contains all of the usual measuring functions and features required for basic and typical environmental noise monitoring but all of them are measured in parallel for three individual profiles. The 118dB dynamic range with no switching required ensures that any noise event will be captured accurately and stored in the massive and almost unlimited memory of the instrument

The instrument is delivered as standard with 1/1 and 1/3 real time Octaves and FFT (for tonal measurements) is available as an option. Upgrades on all Svantek instruments are achieved remotely without a return to factory!

Storage of raw audio data to a thumb-drive in WAV format, enable the user to play back noise recorded as a long term file or an event, triggered on a pre-determined exceedance level.  If you can’t be there, why not have “there” back at the lab!

A wide variety of outdoor monitoring configurations is available and whether you place the instrument on a tripod or inside a weather proof case with remote modem functionality, the SVAN-959 is economical in price, easy in use, and highly accurate.

Low cost Vibration Meter & Analyzer

The SVAN-956 is an all digital Type 1 vibration meter and analyzer intended for general vibration measurements, machinery condition monitoring, and occupational health and safety monitoring.

The instrument measures, in parallel, acceleration, velocity and displacement with independently defined filters and RMS detector time constants.  Each profile presents the user with results including RMS, Peak, Peak-Peak, VDV, MTVV, or Max.  Advanced time history logging for each profile provides complete information about the measured signal and stores it in its non-volatile 32 MB of internal memory or external USB memory stick (thumb drive).  Stored data can be easily downloaded to a PC from the memory stick for further analysis in the SvanPC+ computer software.

Octave and 1/3 Octave filters and FFT are available on the SVAN-956 for applications requiring these conditions.  All weighting filters are available with the SVAN-956.  An RMQ detector enables direct measurement of the Vibration Dose Value (VDV).

The SVAN-956 is a power packed instrument that will not break the bank.  For further information, click here.
